Straight contract win with May Gurney

Straight plc, the environmental products and services group and the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of waste and recycling container solutions, has secured a major new contract from May Gurney, the support services specialist.  The contract for a new waste, recycling and street cleansing service in Bristol is worth more than £900,000 will commence before Christmas of this year.  Implementation will continue until the end of the first quarter of 2012.

The new contract will see May Gurney introduce a mixed plastic recycling scheme for which Straight will manufacture more than 200,000 kerbside recycling boxes.  In addition 68,000 specialist caddies will be supplied for food waste collection.  The new scheme is expected to save Bristol City Council approximately £2.5m per year and will also help towards the Council’s goal of sending no untreated waste to landfill within the next three years.

All of the containers will all be made from high-quality recycled plastic at the Straight factory in Hull.  Straight has also secured the prestigious Carbon Reduction Label on both of these product ranges reinforcing its environmental commitment.  This accreditation also demonstrates the company’s environmental credentials since taking over its manufacturing supply just over twelve months ago.

Jonathan Straight, Chief Executive at Straight plc said:

“We are delighted to be working with May Gurney again on yet another major implementation.  This fact that this is the 21st contract they have won speaks for itself.  It is also great that we are continuing our work in Bristol, which commenced around 20 years ago.”
