As a pioneering environmental business, we understand our role within the local and wider communities and we have always taken steps to help those in need.
Employees are also encouraged to take part in charitable events. The company often matches all funds raised by employees up to an agreed level.
Work in the community
Straight encourages employees to spend two paid days per year doing something positive for their community. Whether it is sitting as a trustee for a charity, looking after the finances for the local Church or helping young people with sports training, we are delighted to be able to help.
Yorkshire Cancer Research
We have raised more than £10,000 to date for Yorkshire Cancer Research by donating 10p for every sale of one of our market leading Compost Converter compost bins.
Yorkshire Cancer Research helps to save lives through the funding of critical research into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Funds raised ensure that Yorkshire remains a centre of excellence for cancer research and treatment, attracting and retaining world-class scientists and clinicians.
We have also adopted Yorkshire Cancer Research’s mascot – the Clangers – and feature them as part of our local authority home composting campaigns. The Clangers, created by Peter Firmin and the late Oliver Postgate, provide a theme which ties in perfectly because the Clangers are experts in recycling. Clangers imagery is used on promotional literature sent out to local authorities and also appears on our dedicated retail websites set up for the councils. Peter Firmin even produced some unique artwork for the campaign featuring a Clanger with a Compost Converter.
