Environmental Policy

Straight Ltd is a supplier of proprietary and bought-in recycling and waste management products and services to public and private sector consumers.

Straight Ltd recognises that its activities impact upon the environment both through its internal operations and through its influences and effects on the wider community. It acknowledges a responsibility for, and a commitment to, protection of the environment (i.e. pollution prevention) throughout all levels of the company.

Straight Ltd exercises this responsibility as follows:

  1. Through full compliance with relevant Health and Safety, Environmental Protection and other appropriate legislation.
  2. Through adherence to national, international and proprietary product and service standards where applicable.
  3. Through its Environmental Management Systems.
  4. Through employee quality and environmental awareness training.
  5. By promoting and rewarding an organisational culture of continuous improvement based upon the company’s stated objectives and the BS ISO 14001: 2004 Standard.
  6. By accrediting most of the market-leading waste and recycling containers made by Straight at its state-of-the-art factory in Hull with the Carbon Reduction Label.

The Carbon Reduction Label demonstrates that products have undergone an assessment of their total greenhouse gas emissions at every stage of the product lifecycle, including production, transportation, preparation, use and disposal.

Straight was first awarded the Carbon Reduction Label in 2011 by undergoing a rigorous process through which a detailed lifecycle analysis was carried out and then audited by the Carbon Trust under the PAS 2050 standard. This standard was developed by the Carbon Trust in partnership with Defra, and was the world’s first standard for measuring product greenhouse gas lifecycle emissions.

Straight has made a commitment to long term reductions in its emissions and a recertification of all previously labelled products has now been completed as is required every two years.
